Her expressive styles of nostalgic\, punk rock\, sleek and simple\, gold wings were thoughtful embellishments that reflected her values\, opinions and her stature as a female Supreme Court justice.\n\nCreate your custom collar design\, carve it out of a cuttlebone that is used as a mold \, pour lead-free pewter into it and do metal finishing work with hand tools. Choose your wearable hardware or a base to mount it on. \n\n\nThe castings are smaller than the actual collar size. The size of design needs to fit in 2″x2″. There will be template designs available for you to select from.  No experience necessary. \nThis class will be in the Casket Arts Factory (not the WOW bus)! Sanitized work space and masks required.

DESCRIPTION:*class takes place in the Casket Arts Factory – not the WOW Mobile Metal Lab and Show. \nManifest and predict your 2022 fortune at this magical\, spirited and shared group experience! \nPartake in the ancient culture-spanning New Year’s Eve tradition of molybdomancy –  the art of pouring lead-free pewter (previously used lead/tin) into a bowl of water to solidify into shapes and textures that hold fortunes of your 2022 year. \nYou will be given a symbolic metal casting to melt into your personal Fortune Casting.  But first you will hold in your hands while meditating on your intentions and for the molecular exchange with you and the metal to occur.  Then\, keeping  your vision close\, you will melt it in a spoon over a flame and pour it into the bowl of water. \nAfter your casting has cooled\, you will remove it and observe the shapes/textures in your hand and in the shadow that it projects on the wall.  Together\, as a group\, we consult with you and the Fortune Chart to determine your 2022 fortune. \nSelect your jewelry hardware or the right base for your Fortune Sculpture from a selection of marble\, stone\, metal and wood \nWe will be snacking\, sipping\, having fun and feeling the magic together!

Who can resist a giggle or a smile when being elf-like.” \nHOW TO OBSERVE #AnswerThePhoneLikeBuddyTheElfDay\n“Simply answer the phone and say “(Insert your Name) here\, what’s your favorite color.” As you answer\, smile and spread some joy. It’s nearly impossible not to. Encourage others to do the same. If you call someone\, don’t be surprised by the elf-like voice.” \nAdditional ways to celebrate as you answer the phone include dressing up and creating your own tiny-sized cast metal elfen flare – a telephone\, ugly sweater\, stocking and more to choose from amongst the molds of the Cabinet of Curious Castings.  You can dress like an elf\, wear a Santa hat or an ugly sweater. DESCRIPTION:Everyone in the Community is Invited!!\n4:30 pm – Reveal and ribbon cutting of the tree sculpture (indoor lobby area)\n5:00–6:30 pm – Multicultural Potluck – Everyone is asked to bring a taste of your culture to share.\n\nWe will kick off the event with a reveal of the tree sculpture created at 4th Ave Fest with artist Sara Hanson. The sculpture was a crowd-sourced\, community art project that reflects Austin’s identity.  Enjoy music and hands-on make + take with the WOW Mobile Metal Lab.\n\nThe Wishing Tree Project \nAustin Area Arts and the Culture and Arts Commission received a SEMAC (Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council) grant to work with public artist Sara Hanson to design and create a tree sculpture and bring her WOW Mobile Metal Lab\, a retired city bus turned into a cast metal sculpture workspace\, for the 4th Avenue Fest in June for the community and community leaders to participate in the creation of cast metal artwork for the tree.  The Wishing tree sculpture invites you to share a wish on a cast metal “leaf” design and hang it on the tree. Legend has it that visits back to the tree will help fulfill your wishes. \nPhase One\nCommunity Leaders Create and Cast Metal Animals for the Tree \n The 4th Avenue Fest kicked off in the morning as community leaders attended a workshop – an opportunity to share\, create and have fun with other community members.  They learned how to direct carve into sand molds to design and personalize with imagery\, words and symbols.  Some poured metal into their molds and broke them open to see their artwork cast in metal.  The ten cast animals will be added to the Wishing Tree sculpture. \nCommunity Leaders:\nMayor Steve King\, representing the City of Austin\nElaine Hansen\, representing the Chamber of Commerce\nEva McDonald\, representing the Hormel Institute\nKathy Green\, representing Austin Public Schools\nTrish Harren\, representing Mower County\nDora Arizola\, representing the Welcome Center\nKris Johnson\, representing Mayo Clinic Health System\nSylvia Hernandez\, representing Austin Aspires\nRain Sureh\, representing Hormel Foods Corp\nShawn O’Connor\, representing Riverland Community College \nPhase Two\nThe Community Creates Wishes for the Tree and to Make + Take Home \nDuring the event community members chose a couple of metal “leaf” lead-free pewter cuttlebone castings to hand stamp a wish/symbols\, color with inks and hang on the tree sculpture and take home as an ornament\, keychain\, pendant or sculpture. \nPhase Three\nHormel Institute Creates Wishes for the Tree and to\nMake + Take Home with the Optical Eye Castings \nSara’s artwork and process refer to space travel and science\, while using lenses and cast metal to explore these concepts.  Inspired by the Cryo-em microscope that is referred to as having similar capabilities of a human on the moon looking down on earth and see pores on skin\, she created an Optical Eye casting made from the scleral ossicles or inside of the ocular bone of the Great Horned Owl from Silverwood Park\, St. Anthony\, MN.  You are invited to create your own Optical Eye casting for a sculpture\, pendant\, keychain or pin.

That space is filled with lead-free pewter to create your small sculpture\, pendant\, jewelry\, keychain\, brooch or charm. You pour the metal into your mold\, do finishing work with hand files/power tools and apply colored inks if desired. Choose from metal/wood/stone bases and jewelry hardware/findings. No experience necessary. Ages 10 and up. Exploring the concept of alternate worlds takes on a different significance whilst living in a pandemic world: a world where everything is familiar but strange in subtle ways.\n\nThis metal casting weekend event is a tribute to Lambert’s ‘Starry Starry Night’ iron pour performance where she created a ‘Star Making Factory’ to recreate the production of stars in molten iron as the sun came up at dawn.\nJoin us and cast your own molten metal star\, planet or other- worldly and interplanetary travel castings.\nLive music\, bonfire\, fire dancers and hot metal!
